THE NATIONAL UNION of Journalists of the Philippines (NUJP) lauded the bravery of the Cagayan de Oro Press Club members who took down a streamer tagging the NUJP and other groups as “terrorists” last May 28. The streamer was hung at the fence of the Press Freedom Monument in Vicente de Lara Park, Cagayan de Oro where members of the media celebrated the Press Freedom Week. They burned the streamer as a sign of protest.

In a related news, the Iloilo City Council junked Police Director Lt. Col. Martin Defensor’s proposal to declare the Communist Party of the Philippines and the New People’s Army as “persona non grata” in Iloilo City. No councilor approved the proposal.

City Council Floor Leader Plaridel Nava said that he does not understand why the police insists on declaring the CPP and NPA as “terrorist organizations” when there are no laws declaring these as such.
